Thread: Grizzly band saw
Post: RE: Grizzly band saw
I bought a 531x2 about 8 years ago. It's the one with cast iron wheels & trunnions, better fence and foot brake. Cost around $1,100.00 and worth every penny then. I would easily pay $2,000.00 for i... |

Post: RE: How I sharpen.
Very nice set-up, Tom! Very organized!
I use CBN wheels (at least a half dozen years) and either Spderco stones or Washeta and strop (vintage chisels) |

I don't follow type studies, but MF are some of my favorite tools. The planes I like, are those with the articulating lever cap. |

I absolutely love the design and workmanship, however stylistically they would not work in our formal, Georgian style home! |

Beautiful work, as we typically have come to expect! May I ask to detail how you make the spines for the backsaws? |

Look closer to Stanley modern planes. In any case, choice is ours, as consumers. For me, I'll support innovation and thumb my nose at copycats. |

On my list as well. Way back in the 70s and early 80s we used a Stanley box for trim, but none had the trip clamp. I suppose the old guys thought it added time to our tasks? |

Remove the fence and gray Scotch-Brite pad with WD-40. No need to get perfect, but clean it and use the jointer. Keep it well waxed and every so often, work a bit more on the rust. |

Thread: A $21 hand plane..
Post: RE: A $21 hand plane..
Rough composition guidelines:
Brass - 2/3 copper 1/3 zinc
Bronze - 7/8 copper 1/8 tin
These are rough and can very widely! If anyone wants to learn more, spend a week at my plant. |
