If near your house I'd skip the smoke. Itll find any holes in your foundation too. As said above, shocked stuff in the hole. If it doesn't move in a few days, its not used. Fill the hole...

Ok, so you have fiberglass batt insulation. Why not encapsulate it by adding cellulose on top. You’ll get air sealing also if you do that.

There’s a mortise on the toe in front of each iron. I suppose that could be for a fence. There isn’t one on the heel, but it could be below the tote.

I've used tapcons, they worked ok. This last time I used smacks. They did a great job and look great! You're grinding them off if you ever need to replace them though.
