Also, if you use a bird cage awl to start the holes with the starter hole slightly larger than the tip of the drill, it will not wander as much when you start the drilling.

I grew up with one of these Craftsman RAS from the '60's. It was a very good tool as long as you remembered to use a negative rake saw blade.

Going to a finer grit sandpaper will still not get the mold and mildew that is down in the crevices, cracks, and divots. My guess is that the boards with the black spots spend more time in the shad...
