+1 on the recirc. pump.  Faster , cheaper , easier to maintain.  And doesn’t waste energy all day like a tank heater.

I’ve done both. I’d recommend the Lee Valley kit with some EMT pipe.   For under $200 and an hour of time you can be flattening anything you can handle without a forklift or gantry.

+3 on Timbermate. Best I’ve used in 35+years for small fills.  For really large voids / repairs , Water Putty is still my go to.
