Doubt it will help you, but made doors for a linen press that ended up about a 1/2 inch too narrow for the opening -  I glued on a 1/2  inch  piece on one of the doors, then put a bead down the middle...

Pete,   I thought the same thing about the ball bearings, though maybe they helped with rust?   What was the  Dodge like - I assume it was a fairly stiff ride?
