The key is a good holding system for gouges.
I've seen plenty of turners use a standard bench grinder, you have to be aware of heat built up, that's all. |

I prefer buttons over figure 8's. I use my biscuit jointer to make the slots.
If I remember to, I use a mortiser before assembly. |

Pinned mortise and tenons . +++
The joints need to be tight, maybe floating tenons would be the best way to go but then pins on both sides.
Any waterproof glue is fine, TB3, epoxy, polyurethane. |

Here's a trick to try: clamp a straight edge on the underside an appropriate distance and run it along the edge of the BS table.
Works well on short boards! |

The last I bought was the same way. Upon closer inspection, it was obvious the A side was the lighter side.
If yours isn't like that, I would use the lighter side to the inside. |

I just scrub along the sides (avoiding the tops and bottoms) with an old scraper blade.

Built in bases wrap arounds, I just make the bottom rail or base about 1/4" higher than the baseboard.
Some people are born with an eye for design, but you get better at it the more projects you find... |
