You will be fine. 6/4 hardwoood can support a long span. Think of all the long thick table tops that have a span longer than 4 feet.

Ok, that's a massive built in. When you first asked the question, I assumed you meant something maybe 32" or 48" wide.. that could be unscrewed from the wall and moved if the carpet needed replaced....
