As a couple of folks suggested, the dutchman would be my approach. It's not  prefect but far better than any filler attempt I've ever made.

Personally I would go with another coat. My fear of trying to touch it up (for me) would be that an otherwise nice paint job would be screwed up with my attempts to repair the missing paint.

John hit it, a whole house system that costs $20K is likely plated in gold. Ours is 7 years old and was $6K back then. That was for everything, the genny, transfer switch and installation.

You'll find ammonia is much better for clean up of shellac than the solvents. They (solvents) just dissolve and dilute the shellac, takes a lot of rinses to get it all out of spray guns and such. OTOH...

Seems like if you put an adhesive on it and needed to disassemble it later it would be a headache. Those drrain assemblies aren't that expensive, you don't want tp just replace it?

The screws would be sufficient if you don't mind having them in the bench top. If you glue you'll probably have to use them to clamp the pieces together. I'm not sure what I would do, but probably use...
