I have a No. 48 for large work, and a set of Wooden T & G planes for thinner stock. Both work great, but the wooden sets takes some fiddling to get set to cut right.

That would actually work. The bottom does not need to be captured and could simply float above the strips.

Plane makers use it as the boxing on moulding planes. I have used it on small cutting boards and still have one board in the shop. I really like the grain and texture of the wood.

I have had parts fall off the bench. Yesterday a drawer front fell and dinged up a corner but it was a corner getting cut out for a half pin. The cabinet is looking great.
