I ended up sanding the wood, regluing and letting it set in a heated room. I then inserted visible splines. It seems to work fine now. |

Just as a follow up I used the T88 epoxy, it was easy to use, and after 24 hours I removed the clamp. Soon after I sanded off the excess. It's good to know about this product.

I would do option 2. If for no other reason the edge grain will be smoother on the kids legs then the end grain. 1/4 inch overhang is not a big deal although a 1/2 inch overhang will look better.
