Sweet gum---Liquidambar styraciflua  star shaped leaves with gumballs.  Lots of gumballs, which is why I wanted it gone. Probably the same as your sweet gum.

Thanks everyone for the comments.  I have been mowing them down since the tree was taken out, about two years now.  They are still popping back up. the RoundUp seems to kill them but they still return...

I've used Walnut sawdust/shavings from the boards mixed with glue to fill cracks/holes.  Since it is from the same board the colors match quite well. Sorry, no help on darkening the light areas.

Have a Black & Decker that has worked well for my needs.  Even took down a 15" diameter dead dogwood and cut up the pieces into manageable size for disposal.
