Post: RE: Can anybody recommend a good straight edge

I've always made my own. The first ones were made in 1988. One is 104" long , the other is 54" long. Before I left the museum shop to work in a cabinet shop in Leonardtown, I made both out of 1/2" ply...

Post: RE: Melamine for workbench top

Go with the hardboard. melamine is a very thin coating. It is not very durable, especially for a workbench top. Attach the hardboard so that it is removable. When it wears out, replace it.

Post: RE: Glue MDF panels together or not?

You could forgo the glue on the strips. Maybe a little on the mitered corners. I would use the 23g nailer to attach the strips.
