I usually try to put the blade/chisel/whatever into my thumbnail and pare a little slice. If it sticks in immediately it is sharp, if it sort of skates a little on the nail then it isn't sharp enough....

Johnson's Workbench here in Charlotte, MI has pink ivory and they will send it anywhere in the country. Furniture-sized pieces of pink ivory will be unbelievably expensive.

Well, that is pretty scummy behavior. Shows a lack of character from the owner. I wouldn't purchase from them on a bet.
