Picked up a Makita 9820-2 knife sharpener at an estate sale for $18 today! Seems like a good simple machine.
Any users have any tips or recomendations

You beat me. I scored mine for $44 at an auction. Can help yet, I haven't had the chance to try it. I've been told to wear a rain coat.

I've had one for a few years. Works great on plane blades and chisels (with jig from Highland). I tried 15" planer blades and haven't mastered them yet. It takes some technique and practice to get a flat grind.
If you need a raincoat I think there's too much water dripping or the guard isn't up high enough.
Highland woodworking and AskWoodMan are good resources.
