I bought the blank from a guy on sawmillcreek, though he is also selling them on ebay. The hardest part was sanding the handle so as to make it possible to regain the mirror polish finish of the bolsters.
I used one of my maple burl blanks I had dyed and stabilized by K&G eariler this year. Using Dursol to polish up the metal worked better than the buffing wheel with the red buffing block. No finish has been applied.
