I've been a casual woodworker for 40+ years, starting with portable power tools, including a shopsmith but for the last 20 years, mostly hand tools, excepting lathe work.. I've learned to sharpen hand saws so they cut great, chisels & planes alike, with most credit to the people on this site. Been using scary sharp up to about 1500 grit for quite a few years now. On a whim, I bought a 1000/4000 water stone and some honing compound for a strop.
WOW!! what a difference!! Even at 58, I'm learning stuff daily.
