Here's a nice user #8, slightly before the turn of the century vintage, well kept for something from that era, usually they are rustbuckets, but this one cleaned up really nicely, some light evidence of rust on one cheek and a few spots on the sole, but nothing really to speak of and as you can see from pics does not affect performance. This one has a replacement iron, I'd say from the late '30s, early 40's as its laminated and there's plenty of it left, so the plane was used a lot to use up the original iron, and I like that. I'd say about 75% japanning, but that's cosmetic. Wood is solid, and quite nice, love them low knobs and on the #8 they were a tad larger. No cracks in the casting, sole flat, mouth good, 100% mechanically and works like it should (if you look close at the first pic you can see the brass knob screw through the shaving). I paid some attention to the back of the iron, tuned up the chipbreaker so it mates well with the iron, squared off and reset the bevel on the tormek and gave it a quick sharpening and it does what it should, more attention to honing the iron will only improve performance. So if you got a hankering for one of the big dogs, here's your chance to get a fine user #8, they don't come up very often here and the ones on the 'bay aren't ready to go to work. When I ship these I have to make up a box to length so I can pack it tight. Yours for $120 plus shipping, first PM with an unequivocal "I'll take it" gets priority, and please include your shipping address so I can figure postage and make up a mailing label. Sorry, I don't have paypal, so payment by USPS money order please, unless I know you from the forum, then checks are ok. These usually don't last very long, in fact the last 3 I've had went to folks here who asked me to look for one for them, so most of mine don't even make it to the S&S.
Thanks for looking.
