It will take a while to "burn through" your sharpening stones.

You could try burning them. Literally. Or, set them up for plinking practice. I usually drop one and end up with two, or more.

Now that I know I'm using the coarse stone incorrectly I think I'll enjoy them more. I won't use it for flattening anymore.
