A job for John Gage ?!
I passed by this old gage in the antique mall for at least a year, then finally took it off their hands. It cleaned up very nice, but there were missing parts, and the brass thumbscrew was in a 'neither here nor there' state of engagement:
Today I made up some new parts..... A couple of sizes of trial wood plugs from olivewood, a beech wedge, and a cutting blade made from spring-steel stock:
One of the wood plugs set up nicely as a pad between the brass screw and the wood beam:
Putting it all together, not a bad Cutting gage at all!
Happy woodworking!
Chris
