Ours takes 1-7.  They collect metal in the same bin.  I assume separation is automated.

MBA Polymers grinds all the plastics together, and mechanically/electronically separates them after grinding.  (If you are interested, Google them.)  With this technology available since the late 1990's, I am surprised any municipality is not taking all plastic types.
I tried not believing.  That did not work, so now I just believe

I feel I should be following up with our town then-- and why they only take such minimal amounts of plastic.

Ours takes 1-7.  All of our recycling is co-mingled, I'm curious how it gets separated.
