Most of my work is finished bright, not painted. So I usually epoxy solid edge banding. But have used the iron-on wood tape for some non-critical jobs; had no problems with that. For applications that do not merit edge banding I have had good luck first saturating with WEST epoxy, and then finishing with thickened epoxy, block sanded down.
Wood is good.
