I made an auxiliary top for my 40-560 Delta scrollsaw. It is held in place by cleats around the original table and on either side of the frame at the back. Rare earth magnets at the rear also help hold it place. The top rocked a bit if the workpiece was large enough to reach the edges. I finally found a solution using a piece of hardware I remember using as a kid when we replaced screen windows on our farmhouse.
Snap Fasteners
They press against the underside of the original table with enough force to keep the table level yet are easy to release when I remove the auxiliary table.
It only took me three years to come up with this solution.
