Wooden Basket Bottoms for Crochet

My wife enjoys crocheting and she asked me to make some wooden basket bottoms.  

She showed me a few websites that sell them and that's where I got the dimensions plus the hole count and hole size that I needed.

The ones for sale are made of very thin veneered plywood (3 or 4mm) and they are cut with a CNC laser.  Some reviews objected to the campfire smell! 

I'm using solid wood resawn, then drum sanded, to 1/4 inch thick.

What size holes did you drill?

My wife tells me the size of the holes determines what yarn thickness to use.

Most of the commercially available ones have either 7mm or 8mm holes so I used a 5/16 inch brad-point bit which is 7.9 mm.

Also, the ones we looked at online had an even number of holes so I did the same.
