Sure will interfere with your finish. Presume you're reading about hand dish detergent, which contains a humectant - Glycerin - to keep Marge's hands soft. An alcohol, so miscible with water, and of higher molecular weight to evaporate slower. Claims to limit checks and cracks.
Cut your piece with the knowledge on why/how wood shrinks given in FPL
Wood Handbook or Hoadley, and you can easily do without, and cure the piece faster.
Hand
soap, versus detergent, will have similar effect, slowing the curing process and making some finishes problematic.
Many magic methods out there espoused by the famous, most nearly useless.
Better to follow the leader than the pack. Less to step in.

Agree with what MM has to say! Although have postings here in archives on which soap & best methods to use. Not sure will have any more success than rough turning and setting aside to reach EMC.
