Wood ID help
#3
I have a slab from Grandpa Flynn's stash that I can't conclusively identify. It's an odd shape and not really suitable for anything but epoxy fill. I lost a fair amount to the flattening process and I suspect after sanding I'll be left with about 7/16". I'm thinking I can back it with something to strengthen it, and then maybe a picture frame around it or something similar.

I was hoping that flattening and mineral spirits would help make identification easier but I'm still not certain. If I had to guess, I'd say olivewood, but the figure and the darker grain lines make me question. I think that's the closest.

Also, the size of the entire piece is about 17.5" x 37.5".

Spalted curly soft maple is my guess.
