IMO the best quality would have welded links..not the twist type...but you may also want to consider another type of lid support like this one on Amazon

If I understand the question, a chain stop will be an inexpensive device to relive strain/breakage from the hinge overextending.

Products such as shown in your pic and this link to Lee Valley "Soft-Down Flap Stay" actually control the movement of the top and provide some support for accidental closure (kid safety).

I have seen others with specific strength ratings to hold open larger boxes (blanket storage, toy boxes) to protect little fingers from dropping tops.

Not sure which the OP is looking for, but hope the name and link help clarify.
