Yes, I considered it.  Anywhere else would require step down from it to the ground, and dealing with the aluminum siding.

For a long term permanent solution, these seem like minor issues to me and would solve a lot of other problems. Even returning it to original shouldn't be a huge problem if you carefully cut and save the pieces.
