If you stop the machine part way through planing a board you might be able to deduce where in the feed train it’s happening.

But you described the problem as ‘ridges’ ‘sanded off easily’ that indicates to me small areas of incompletely cut wood. Don’t see how it can be anything but the knives. Problems like debris in the rollers or a damaged pressure bar will tend to scratch grooves in the wood..not raise ridges.

You say you don’t see chips in the knives. Do you see glinting on the edge of the knives or areas you can catch a fingernail? Spots on the knives may be rolled (don’t cut yourself).

Can you shift one knife laterally at all and if so, do the ridges go away or change location?
