I have .LEESON electric motor that I replaced the bearings on. 5hp single phase as I put it back together I noticed that the rear bearing looks like it is not seated fully. After doing some research I found out that the shaft has to move that is way they put the wavy washer in both ends. But it seems to me mine is a little more it’s about a 1/8 to 1/16 inch. Is this normal?

I have never seen a Leeson motor on my side of the Atlantic but I have fixed up other makes of motors.
I would expect to find some sort of springy washer outside the bearing on a motor with that much end play. Or I would expect the bearing on the pulley end to be locked in from bort sides so it cannot move about while the bearing in the fan end is left free to move sideways. Either one or the other.
East German or Polish motors from the communist era sometimes have neither......... so I cannot be sure but as a rule of thumb I would expect to find something that prewents the shaft from walking back and forth in the axial direction.

Do the end bells fit correctly ? Did you try tapping on the outer race with a brass punch to see if it is seated ? Does the bearing have the same numbers as the original ones ? Roly
