I am interested, but would need the item or items to be shipped.
...Naval Aviators, that had balz made of brass and the size of bowling balls, getting shot off the deck at night, in heavy seas, hoping that when they leave the deck that the ship is pointed towards the sky and not the water.

Hmmm...i'm up in La Porte--but caregiving for my wife (dementia and recent bone replacement) limits my free time. Not just for making a drive but for woodworking in general. Still...i may end up sending you a message, might make a stop while visiting friends!!

Mike- Why oh why did you have to say Central IN? I'm in Franklin so if I'm not close I've gotta be close-ish. Budget is not great for me right now to buy any high-end tools but if you're spreading your sales out over time you might be hearing from me.
Am I understanding that you are going to post here individually as you start the actual sales process? If so, I'll certainly keep an eye out here for your posts. If you have any tools related to windsor chairmaking, I would be most definitely interested in what you have, but I love any quality tool of all shapes and sizes.
You didn't ask for any advise as to selling your collection, but I'm going to throw an idea out at you. Are you a member of MWTCA? If you don't know, there's a spring meet coming up in March at McCormick's Creek State Park. You could join and set up a table at the meeting. First table is free, second table is $7 I think so fairly affordable way to get your tools in front of a big audience. I'm getting the sense you're not in full on liquidation mode and you'd rather just sell a few tools onesy-twosey so maybe this idea isn't for you. It would solve the shipping problem for you if nothing else, and if you've never been to a meet it's a pretty good place to hang out with a bunch of old dudes who love old tools.

Forgive me, but why is it so difficult to ship hand tools? It happens on this site and elsewhere every day.

You are south of Indy and I am north. I really like Franklin and would gladly live there. I'm north, in what used to be called Nora....near the Indiana School for the blind. Call it about an hour or less from you. Come on over!

Point taken, and I will be doing it. I have had good results selling locally and meeting other woodworkers in the process.

Mike,
If you haven't already look at pirateship.com. They have lower rates for UPS and USPS. Put in the your zip code and the zip code you're shipping to, the dimensions and weight and it will show you quote for all options. Pick one, pay for it and print the label then drop off the package at your post office or UPS outlet.I use it for everything I ship.

I highly suggest to build wooden box to securely house a hand plane. I use 1/2" sides with 1/4" ply for top and bottom. Bottom is glued and nailed, top is screwed on.
Wrap it well with packing and fill all voids in the box after plane is in the box. Also helps to glue a few blocks inside locking the plane is place in the middle of the box.
And be sure to ad enough insurance. Post offices are not dainty with boxes.
