How could I lighten the color of the stain.
The walnut plywood I purchased is much lighter than my solid walnut wood but the stain in its present condition is to dark.
Thanks for your response

Which MW stain? Oil based or water based? If oil based, they have two walnut colors: Dark Walnut and Special Walnut...Special Walnut is the lighter of the two. You can lighten the color by thinning with mineral spirits. Never used the water based, but I suppose you could thin with water to lighten.

You need to custom mix a few different tones to get the shade correct. I find it a PITA but it is what it is.

You should dye the plywood first to adjust the color close to the darker solid wood. Then you can apply your stain and it will come out an even color. KansasCityFireslayer can show you some great photos of a project he did.
