Porch swing - what wood?

Ash has very poor durability and is susceptible to insect attack. Not good for outdoor use.

White Oak is likely your best choice. It's up there for the strength and durability, and available in your area.

I used Cypress with Resorcinol exterior epoxy glue... that was 20 years ago.

One of the woods available here in Middle Tennessee is Sassafrass. I was told that Sassafrass is good for outdoor projects and built an outdoor chair with it. The wood worked easily and can be painted or finished. The problem is that it may not be available in your area.
