HANDTOOLS: Type 11 5 1/2. . . Nice - SOLD

SOLD

I'm letting go of an old friend; this Type 11 5 1/2 has been in my user till for the last 20 years, I recently upgraded, thanks to joemac, and I can't say enough thanks to joemac, and now this plane is surplus and must find a new home.  It's been very very good to me and produced a lot of good work.

What we have is a vintage Type 11 5 1/2, pre 1917 so its technically an antique, 100 years old with another 100 years left; 100% mechanically, there are some small spots on the sole showing evidence of rust, but that never caused an issue for me, and as you can see it performs well.  I gave it a sharpening on the Tormek, and re-tuned the chipbreaker, so its ready to go.  A slight bit of japanning loss on the toe, but overall about 90% or the original japanning is present; all original, SR&L logo on the iron, plenty of life in the iron, typical T11 low knob, tote has a small chip on one side you can see in the pics; and on the lever cap there are chips where the lever meets the cap, which has not been a problem for me; otherwise, zero apologies, this is a plane that has done yeoman's work for me and will for you.  Here's some pics:

A very worthy plane, can be yours for $65 plus shipping.

First PM with an unequivocal 'I'll take it' gets priority; I don't have paypal, so payment by USPS money order please, unless I know you then a check is ok; please include your full shipping address in the PM so I can print mailing labels and quote shipping.

A great plane that has been good to me, time for a new home.  Thanks for looking.

Ok, 200 looks and no bites, maybe I have an emotional attachment on the pricing, so now $60 plus shipping.

What's the difference between a 5 1/2 and a 5? Blade width?

Yup, a #5 has a 2" iron and is an inch shorter.  Essentially, a #5 1/2 is a form of panel plane, about as wide as a #6 or #7, but shorter at 15".  You can shoot with it too, I used it for shooting sometimes when my #6 got dull and I wanted to finish up and it works well.  Has some mass too, 2 pounds heavier than a #5, but a pound lighter than a #6.

The plane has arrived at it's new home. I look forward to using it. Hopefully, it will eventually pass into another shop after me as well. If it lasts another 100 years, it will need to find other homes.

Thanks,

John
