Stanley #98
#4
I just received a #98. My friend said it was his dad's (a finish carpenter)and might be 150 years old. I see a 98 is called a Rabit plane. I don't understand it's construction. What is the 1/2" "shelf" for? I guess a kerf was cut and the plane used it for a guide.

Can someone set me straight?

After I posted I found a video explaining the aspects of the 98.
Guess all my questions are answered.
