The major offenders of the "UV" ambiguity are the color postcard sellers. They used to use a shellac coating to keep the surface from getting soiled. A while back they started advertising "UV coated" as if "UV" was a type of finish that they applied. Since no one buying postcards is interested in how they cure the clear finish, the inclusion of "UV coated" is clearly aimed at making buyers think that the coating offers UV protection.
I was just offering the observation about the coating as a cautionary note; that is: Don't assume that a UV coating offers UV protection unless it specifically states that it does so.
