Hitachi F1000A
#4
Our local Habitat for Humanity Chapter owns a mid-80s Hitachi F1000A planer/joiner (which does a fantastic job) and we are on the hunt for new arm springs (part # 972-060) because one of the springs has broken. The part is marked obsolete--not available and discontinued. While one of the springs has broken, we are fortunate the other remains in good working condition, pictures attached with fairly accurate measurements. One of our volunteers modified some springs to serve as a temporary fix while we look for a long term solution (i.e. we received a quote from a reputable spring manufacturing company but I continue to look for less expensive options). Any ideas or owners of Hitachi F1000As who have discovered sources for arm springs?

An issue that I see is the amount of force required to extend the original springs.

Ray; thanks for the recommendation.  You are spot-on; we worry about ensuring we have the correct tension. Hopefully McMaster-Carr will have some ideas.
