I have it near the hvac main return so it gets "drawn" in
We have gravel for water, but the good filters seem to keep the white dust at bay.
Maintains our place at 38 percent, I fill it twice a day, from a 5 gallon bucket.
Is it spring yet? can't wait to go from dry skin to runny nose!

Never had a need for a humidifier here as even today it's 19* outside and 72% humidity. Inside rarely ever gets dry inside in fact I would often like a dehumidifier in the winter as well as summer.

That 72% @ 19° outside would translate to about 10% @ 70° inside.
WebMD suggests about 30%-50% for nasal health.  You’re probably good in the D-FW area where you don’t drop that low very often, but consistently getting temps that low can play havoc during the cold/flu season.
