I have bluetooth headphones, so my next TV is going to have bluetooth output. The roku we have downstairs has a headphone output and doesn't output audio to the tv if headphones are plugged in. My fire tv stick has bluetooth output and if you hook up bluetooth headphones to it, there is no sound to the tv. I don't really think I would want wired headphones in bed

The Sennheisser unit plugs into the cable box, but can also connect directly to the TV. It is wireless, but I think it uses radio frequency broadcasting. It has excellent range in my house (which is all plaster with metal lath, so WiFi is a real problem, and some bluetooth is too).
This is the "closed back" version; they make an open back version that allows outside noises in.
