bench mount belt sander
#3
Hope someone can help me out on this problem. Bought a bench mount belt sander. Brought it home, set it up, started to use it and after a few minutes saw a puff of smoke. Turned it off, removed bottom cover and found the capacitor blew. Bought replacement capacitor, installed, started sander and after a few minutes same thing, capacitor blew. Can't return it because I reworked dust shroud. Do I install a capacitor with a higher ampere rating ? Would that work, I'm not an electrician!

A quick guess is the centrifugal switch is stuck. Its starting with the capacitor, but never "releasing" it, so it will burn up every time. Find the switch and take a look to make sure it moves like it should then look at replacing the capacitor.
