Got tired of hunting every time I needed one. Used melamine (would not recommend) and scraps of maple, glued with Roo Glue. French cleat to hang on the wall.

Mine is just a shadowbox style box with cleats to hold the blades.

That is a nice solution that keeps them all handy. I just have mine in a drawer.

Melamine shows off the squares very nicely, which is a plus. Dimensions are precise at 0.500 inches thick. Makes cutting grooves for the frame easy.
That said, it requires Roo Glue or the equivalent to glue anything onto the surface. That is a slippery pairing, and because of the panel dimensions, clamps weren’t do-able. I used 23 ga pin nails to hold in place while I aligned the pieces with a square. I really needed 3 hands at that point. I also didn’t want visible screws from the show side. Not sure how Roo Glue will hold long term.
I glued and screwed the cleat onto the back but somehow I got an 1 1/4 “ screw mixed into the box I was using, so it popped the surface of the show side - right under where the straight edge holder now sits. No harm, no foul but a reminder to check as you work.
And finally, melamine is heavy.
As I was using up cutoff scraps, it was the best fit. If I had a piece of 1/2” birch scrap in the size I designed l would have used it.
