My name is Phil Land. I am a 47 year old and married. I have a 26 year old daughter who is married and 2 1/2 years ago gave me my first granddaughter. Then 3 1/2 years ago my present wife and I adopted our son, Matt (he was less than two when he was helping me sand that pen on the lathe in the picture that is my avatar) he loves the "chop" and the saw dust in the shop. I have been turning since I got my HF like lathe 4 1/2 years ago (edit: that lathe lasted about 6 months then I got my Jet 1236)
There is nothing like the smell of wood as it is being worked; however, lack of filtration leads to fudgy boogers.

I'm one of the new guys. My name is David and I haven't really done any turning yet. I'm getting together a set of tools to give it a try. It has always intrigued me so I'm sure I keep doing it even if it doesn't become my obsession. One thing that interests me about it is it is not all that loud of a thing to do. I do woodworking stuff outside and often late at night so I have to be cautious about what I do.
