Replacing a vacuum power cord

This is the path of least resistance.  Followed by a full replacment cord, as someone posted above.

Harbor Freight sells heat-shrink butt splices, and surprisingly, they're quite good.  But you need the right dies and proper crimp tool.  They are one of those inexpensive HF gems.  Same with the heat-shrink tubes, including the marine type.
