HANDTOOLS: T13-14 SW #5, Crisp for its Age....
#6
Here's a very worthy plane for somebody, and a bit interesting too.  For the "Type" freaks, this one is a single '10 patent date, with fully machined frog, original SW iron with plenty of meat, and here's what's interesting, a raised ring around front knob but no "Made in USA" on the casting; this puts it squarely between a Type 13 ('25-'28) and Type 14 ('29-'30), the first with "Stanley" on the lever cap, so its fairly precisely dated to 1928 or so.  Fun facts. Always made me think about who bought, and made a living with this plane.

But to the merits of the plane, its got 95% of its original japanning, not bad for a 90 year old plane, and the rosewood knob and tote are in great shape, solid and look good.  All parts are original and its 100% mechanically, I fully disassembled and cleaned everything up after giving it the once over.  Sole is just dandy - as is the mouth.  No pitting or anything like that, this plane was cared for throughout its life. Right smack in the middle of the Sweetheart vintage, Stanley's golden years (as some say), it works well, and I squared off the iron and gave it a quick sharpening on the Tormek (I also tuned the chipbreaker on the Tormek, I've got that technique down) so it mates well with the iron, and it pulls full width shavings like it should (in the first pic you can see the brass screw on the tote through the shaving).  Further attention to the iron will only improve performance.

I don't find many SW vintage planes in this condition, so if you're in the market for one (or another one, as its very handy to have a couple in your kit), this is worth your serious consideration.  Priced to sell at $50 plus shipping, a real peach with some history.  Pics below:

I don't need the plane, but I am tempted to add it to my collection of Admiral Planes.
This is certainly an Admirable plane.
