Not another box...

Ah...the joys of being retired
Winkgrin .....a new bench?   Not right now.....having to much fun with this one.   Even built a storage area underneath, to stash a few items...

Ok, Got the glue spread on the dovetails....and a few clamps applied...

Will let this sit a day or so.....then maybe make a few bead cuts all the way around.  Top bead to conceal where the sliding top will come out...need to make a few saw cuts...

Will need to clean the corners up first, get them all looking spiffy....the panel for the sliding top will be from "leftovers"

More rebate work to do...
Rolleyes

Maybe saturday, I can get a little more done..
Rolleyes
As for the under-bench storage....

Battery tools have been moved.   Hand planes are now on that shelf.   Drawers are for the "beater" chisels I am now using anymore...

Stay tuned,,, might get this done before Monday.....hate working on Mondays

Ok...Got a little more done today...

Dovetails were planed flush,  and even the top and bottom edges...laid out a line

And milled a couple beads with this old plane..

Two beads went all around the outside...

Then a little work with a saw..

So a lid could be made....stay tuned for more pictures

Welcome to my little world..
Winkgrin

Where all kind of planes are used...

Sometimes a saw gets used
Rolleyes

I could then size a panel to fit, including a rebate all the way around...once it fit well enough to slide easy...a handle was glued on

When you slide the lid shut....

It will be hard to tell how to open the box.
Cool

Might be about ready for a finish of some sort?   Lot of sanding to do.
Stay tuned...

How about a side view?
Winkgrin

It is rather a bit on the "Plain" side.....

Leave something sit too long.....

May get a bit of thin Walnut made into trim, to dress it up?
Confused

OK, the first coat of The Infamous Witch's Brew, is now applied to the box..
Winkgrin

It may get a second coat, before a gloss top coat..
Confused

At least the dovetails show up a little better
Cool

As for all that "Clean Living"  myths....
Uhoh

This was taken about this time of year.....in 1954.....Dad and his pipe, me still trying to get that walking thing done pat.....

Basically, I scrapped off the worse of the mess....wiped it down....and added a coat or two of Amber Shellac...

The BLO in the Brew was taking way too long to "dry" out..
Angry ...did away with it.   Had to unstick the lid, too
Upset

A piece of glass served as a scrapper  to remove the gunked up areas.
Cool

Just a box made from leftovers.....may stick it into a cubby on the computer desk, to hide the bills....

Ok, basically out of lumber, for now.    I do have a 1/2" x 8" x 48" slab of Poplar left....might see what I can cobble up out of it.
