I often use a pattern following bit of the style shown in the attached link. So 1/2" plywood is ideal for templates.

Oh, yes.
I have some of that in my shop.
Just never heard it called that.

Glad to help. Masonite not only works well for templates, but it's dirt cheap! I use the 1/4 inch tempered...untempered just seems "soft".
