I used to have lots of small odd cutoffs that weren't suitable for cutting boards (even glued end-to-end) that ended up being burned. Now that I started turning it's easy to see lots of little pen blanks, bottle openers, segmented bowls...

Here's an example. I had a few random small scraps of African mahogany (no idea why I kept cutoffs this size) and a small square of bubinga that just happened to be about the same size. I probably kept that just because it's bubinga and I didn't want to throw any of that way (or burn it).
Add some glue, a clamp, and then turn it in the morning. Now it's this:
Nothing too special, but a good way to save some wood from the fire and turn it into something useful.
