sargent 714 plane tote repair ?
#3
I recently posted a couple planes that I had gotten at a garage sale.  The 714 Sargent has a damaged tote.  I was going to glue on a piece of wood and make it look better and more useable.   I planed to top of the tote, see picture, but it looks a lot more reddish than the air dried walnut also in the picture.  I thought it was walnut, but the color doesn't look like it.  Anyone know what kind of wood they used?  Sorry about the small sample size.

Also does anyone have a lead on a replacement blade?  This one is a couple sharpening away from being totally used up.

Thanks for all the info.
