The Grizzly cast iron fence is quite rigid and the locking mechanism is very good, too, but I'm really only using it with my tall fence to keep it parallel with the miter slot. Any fence would work though you might have to clamp the tall fence at both the front and back.

Tapper, I went to a lot of trouble to get the perfect fence...not!!! I simply clamped a board to the table. I was resawing 8" cedar and I may not be so lucky in hardwood but I will not hesitate to try the idea again.
