Delta chop saw taking a long time to stop (video inside)

My 12" delta miter saw is suddenly taking an extra second or two to stop-- used to stop the blade pretty quickly.
Sounds like the motor is still running-- is this a bad switch, or something else? It still is cutting just fine.

I took a quick video of it, so you can see/hear what's happening.

Check the brushes. Easy first thing to eliminate

it's a 36-255L i tried hittin the switch a couple times quickly when it's doing that shut down thing, no difference.

it's gettin up there in age-- it's probably 12 years or so... sat, unused for a bunch of years, so i don't think it's overworked. Not like i'm a contractor or anything.

Been there done that, more than once. I'd be willing to bet, the switch is bad, and the reason it keeps doing the same thing, is, "because the switch is bad".

If the brushes were bad, it would run like Ca Ca.

When you release the trigger the switch shorts out the motor winding, and the induced voltage creates magnatism which in turn stops the motor.

I have a Rigid 12" miter saw that does the same thing. It progressively got worse and worse. I just live with it.

7 years ago, Rigid had a recall on my 12" saw, for JUST this problem. I brought it to a repair shop for the "recall work" and they replaced the whole motor. 7 years later I have the same problem.

I will try blowing out the motor as best I can, to see if that helps and will post back here in the future.

My Delta 10 inch saw took a bit long to stop. It turned out to be a loose bolt holding the blade on.

I also have a Delta and thought I had that problem. Turned out it was a loose arbor nut. What I thought was the saw not cutting off was just the blade spinning on the shaft. I never did figure out how it could do that and still cut, but it did. At any rate check that first. Oops, I see Paul already thought of that.
