Porch Ceiling

I have a covered porch at my house.  I plan on building a coffered ceiling this spring.

What material should i use for the crown molding?  Is it ok to use FJP since the crown will not be in direct contact with the elements?

I would first seal it with an exterior primer (even if you buy pre-primed stock) followed by one coat of paint on all sides before installation and it will do ok.  I did that when I put in a new covered front porch ceiling with crown on my first house 25 years ago, and drove by last summer and it still looked good.
